Ferrisburgh Recreation Committee

The Ferrisburgh Recreation Committee (FRC) is a community-driven group of volunteers dedicated to organizing local events, managing youth programs, and improving town parks. They operate as an advisory body to the Ferrisburgh Selectboard and focus on enhancing the physical and social health of the community.

Key Responsibilities & Activities

The committee handles a variety of projects that range from maintaining sports facilities to hosting seasonal fundraisers: [6]

  • Facility Management: They oversee the maintenance and improvement of local facilities, specifically focusing on the Ferrisburgh Skating Rink. Recent efforts include acquiring a new rink liner and maintaining the rink shed.
  • Program Development: The committee works on introducing and expanding recreational options. Current projects include a Disc Golf course proposal and coordinating Pickleball net placements.
  • Community Events & Fundraising: They organize events like skating games, auctions, and holiday activities (e.g., visits from Santa and wreath auctions) to foster community spirit and raise operational funds.
  • Financial Planning: Members petition for town funds, apply for grants, and secure donations from local businesses to support recreational goals.

Meeting Information

  • Schedule: The committee typically meets on the 1st Wednesday of each month.
  • Location: Meetings are generally held at Ferrisburgh Town Hall.

Getting Involved

The committee has an unrestricted size and is open to any resident who wants to join. To get involved, you can reach out to the Ferrisburgh Town Clerk’s Office.

The Ferrisburgh Recreation Committee (FRC) runs an ongoing bottle and can redemption program as a key part of their fundraising efforts. Residents can support the committee—and specifically the Ferrisburgh Skating Rink—throughout the year.

How the Bottle Drive Works

Instead of a one-time event, the FRC utilizes a partnership with a local redemption center for continuous funding:

  • Drop-off Location: Bring your redeemable bottles and cans to the Vergennes Redemption Center.
  • Instruction for Staff: When you drop off your items, tell the staff to put the redemption receipt into the "Ferrisburgh Skating Rink" envelope.
  • Impact: These funds are used for the upkeep and operational costs of the community skating rink, such as purchasing new liners and maintaining the rink shed.

Other Fundraising Initiatives

The bottle drive is often combined with other seasonal or project-specific efforts mentioned in recent committee agendas:

  • Round-Up Fundraisers: The committee has explored "round-up" campaigns at local checkout counters to raise additional small-scale donations.
  • Disc Golf Sponsorships: A current goal is to raise approximately $1,500 through sponsorships for individual holes on the proposed disc golf course.
  • Wreath Auction: An annual winter fundraiser where participants can create wreaths for a suggested donation or bid on them during an auction.
