Town Buildings Maintenance Committee

The Town Buildings Maintenance Committee (BMC) is an advisory body in Ferrisburgh, Vermont, tasked with the stewardship of the town's physical assets.

Overview

The Building Maintenance Committee (BMC) provides oversight and strategic recommendations for the preservation, repair, and long-term improvement of all town-owned facilities. The committee works closely with the Ferrisburgh Selectboard to ensure town buildings remain in excellent condition and serve the community effectively. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Capital Project Oversight: Reviews proposed large-scale projects and capital expenditures before recommending them to the Selectboard for final approval.
  • Budget Management: Monitors the town's "BMC K Account," a dedicated capital expenditure fund (typically allocated $70,000 annually) used for major facility improvements.
  • Facility Planning: Develops scopes of work for structural repairs, energy-efficient lighting upgrades, and site improvements at locations including Town Hall, Town Highway Garage, the Fire Station Building, Historical Society Building, and the Union Meeting Hall.
  • Strategic Maintenance: Differentiates between routine maintenance (handled via individual building budgets) and long-term capital projects to ensure efficient use of town funds. 

Meetings & Participation

  • Schedule: Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m..
  • Location: Meetings take place at the Ferrisburgh Town Hall and are accessible via Zoom.
  • Public Involvement: The BMC is an open committee; residents interested in contributing their expertise to the town's infrastructure are encouraged to apply through the Town Clerk's Office
